Cats and Allergies
Answer by Sharyn Wolf on Quora
Years ago I found a cat on the street— long, orange tabby. He was so gentle as I stood there with my two dogs— I picked him up and took him home. I’m allergic to cats, and I found a home for him immediately. The next day when the woman came to pick him up— she looked at him, she looked at me, and she said you’re not giving that cat up, are you?
I was already in love, hives, sneezes all and. I went to an allergist for allergy shots. The allergist, a very wise M.D., told me that he wouldn’t give me shots. He said that if I could live with the cat for one year, my allergies would be gone.
I went to the drugstore to get allergy pills, nasal sprays— you name it.
By the end of the year I rescued a second cat I call Bakehead Lily because she loves to bake her head under a lamp.
Cat allergies are gone— if I get a scratch it does turn red. Fur in the nose might make me sneeze a little.
Thank you, Sharon, for this insightful post.  I hope it will help many kitties in the future from being dumped because of allergies. 🙂
